THE SECOND GREATER BATTLE OF VYRNWY MIS MEDI 2010? The First Battle Took Place On The 26 September 1400, a defeat of sorts for the Welsh but the beginning of a great struggle for Welsh Freedom, our last great war for Welsh Independence, a War of National Liberation that was to last 21 years. It began at Llys Glyndyfrdwy on 16 Medi 1400 when our nations 'Founding Fathers' gathered to plot rebellion and declared Owain ap Gruffydd Fychan 'Tywysog Cymru'. Two days later on 18 Medi a small army gathered at Caerdrweryn and from there road out into history, attacking Ruthin and raiding on they attacked a number of Colonial Castle Towns in the North East; Denbigh, Flint, Hawarden and Holt. By the 22 September the Welsh were attacking the Town of Oswestry aided by local Welsh who had decided to join Glyndwr's small 'Rebel', fast riding raiding party, by the 24th September Glyndwr was leading the rebel band to attack Powis Castle and sacking Welshpool.
.They then made their way into the heartland of Glyndwr's family lands in area of Mathrafel, site of the Royal Seat of the Princes of Powys/Powys Fadog. On towards the west, to camp on the banks of the Afon Erfynwy, no doubt weighed down by pillaged goods, weapons and supplies and a growing army of new recruits and camp followers. However, there on the 26 September the Welsh were caught by a quick on their trail, 'posse' led by Hugh Burnell Sheriff of Shropshire who caught up with the 'Welsh Rebels'. There on the banks of Afon Erfynwy a skirmish and running battle took place with the Welsh escaping west along the Afon Efyrnwy into the wilds of Coed Penllyn and safty of the Berwyn Mountains. There are three rivers leading to the west that might have provided trails to follow, in this area there are mountains named Y Gadfa and Braich y Owen. I wonder if they are linked to this unfolding story? Personally, I am of the mind also that they may have taken a quicker route along Waun y Gadfa to Bwlch y Groes toward Bala and straight on to Eryri? Perhaps some one out there as some local knowledge which might help track Glyndwr and his followers after the 'Battle of Erfynwy'.
.Having made their way into the safty of Eryri for the winter, out of which Glyndwr would lead a now, larger army with new recruits from all over joining what was to become by 1403 a great National Army of Liberation. That rather near catastrophe on the banks of Afon Erfynwyin the Autumn of 1400, an inconspicuous beginning, a near total defeat would give cause for a National Liberation Movement to come into existence. Thus would be launched what would become an emense long struggle struggle for Welsh National Sovereignty and Independence, A fight for the Freedom of Welsh People from Oppression and Tyrrany, as well from expropriation of their land and the exploitation of it's national resouces. Now 600 years later we Welsh, hopefully will soon witness contemporary patriots awake and arise to meet another great challenge by Foriegn Neo Colonial interests, that of Cheque Book Conquest seeking to buy up Welsh Land on a massive scale in the great Vyrnwy Estate Land Grab.
.Embassy Glyndwr via their Tarian Glyndwr blog called upon Patriots to march on Vyrnwy from Llanwddyn this August Bank Holiday, that might be somewhat of short notice for a major march but hopefully there will be at least some 'symbolic protest gestures' made over this coming August Bank Holiday. Although the weather is forecast as possibly bad and not condusive for any March or Action to take place, although patriots could make a useful recce to later advantage! However, I suggest that Mis Medi - Mis Glyndwr is made a 'Month of Action' concluding with a mass mobalisation of Patriots in and around the Vyrnwy Estate over weekend of 25 - 26 September. If I knew where best, I would suggest the setting up of a Patriots Protest 'Camp Cymru Glyndwr', anyone out there who knows the area, do send me your suggestions? Taking example of Climate Camp Cymru Weekend, why not similar regards the proposed Camp Cymru Glyndwr. See Climate Camp Link at end, maybe they should be contacted to help even perhaps a Camp Cymru Glyndwr could be organised under their auspices?
.Any 'Cymry Cymraeg' working at present with Climate Camp Cymru perhapsare welcome to volunteer and take charge here as I have not the time, nor the expertise to take this much further? Anyway. it's optional not an absolute neccessity, up to those patriots who would be willing to participate in such. If this is to work well then really it needs maximum unity and solidarity, not just in backing but in contribution and participation from a number of groups and organisations. Thus all such Welsh, be they Political, Social and not least Cultural, if interested also individuals in establishing and running a Camp Cymru Glyndwr, need to meet one another to get cracking on a Camp Cymru Glyndwr planning, preparation and organisation which could include a weekend of Welsh History, Culture and music. Perhaps Puppet Show and Story Telling also Patriotic Discussions and Political Debate etc. See for ideas the Climate Camp Cymru and Seven Rivers Project links at end.
.It should not be lost on you that, the Sunday 26 September 2010 will be anniversary of the first Battle of Vyrnwy of 26 September 1400, thus best day for a major march on Vyrnwy giving much more time to organise and prepare for. I understand tha Embassy Glyndwr will be organising their own history commemoration and no doubt inform patriots of details in due course. Please also note that on the Monday 27 September 2010 Llanwddyn Council will be again meeting to discuss the Vyrnwy Estate Land Sale issue, thus a Mass Mobalisation of Patriots and other supporters of the Campaign will provide excellent backing to the Council and Communities demands upon the Severn Trent Authourity regards their intended 'Sell Off' of Welsh Land - Owain Glyndwr's ancestral lands.
This will be the Second Greater Battle of Vyrnwy, not an armed fight but one of democratic demonstration of our demands for Land and Liberty, freedom from Neo - Colonialist land grabbing of our land to which we must say loudly - 'WALES IS NOT FOR SALE'. A non violent Patriotic Protest, perhaps with some creative Agit - Prop and obstuctive pacifism and, maybe this will be the patriotic prologue, as that 'skirmish' on 26 September 1400, the beginnings of a renewed radical struggle of another Welsh National Liberation Movement, possibly out of the joint efforts of 'Tarian Glyndwr' and 'Tarian Cymru' and this Second Greater Battle of Vyrnwy will be born another Mudiad Cenedl Glyndwr, a movement prepared to be far more radical, committed and couragous in seeking and waging Struggle for Welsh Freedom and Independence than exists at present, we shall see? The important thing now is that you start to organise yourselves, your groups and communities to attend what ever is organised or not over the aforementioned weekend's 'Second Greater Battle of Vyrnwy'. Plan for a weekend at Camp or in a B&B or Caravan, preapare protest banners and placards. Not least bring 100's of Baneri Glyndwr, lets put on a great show, to make Wales and the world sit up and take notice that we are prepared to arise, walk up to the line, cross it and fight back!.
